Building & Maintenance Services supplied and installed the mechanical services for the new Head Quarter and Urban Space buildings to be occupied by the West Midland Fire & Rescue Authority. BMS where responsible for the full design of the mechanical services including: Heat load calculations, ventilation design and VRF design. The 12 month program saw work begin in June 07 and finish in June 08

There where two buildings on the project, the HQ building and the Urban Space. The HQ building consisted of two floors each with 6 VRF heat recovery systems serving a total of 145 units. The US building has 2 VRF heat recovery systems serving a total of 15 units.

The Ventilation has been installed to provide the fresh air requirements to each occupant. There where two large air handling units manufactured by Dunham Bush. Each unit was located within their own plant room and served half of the ground & first floors each.

An LTHW system was installed to supply the wet system within the core area and each of the AHU's to keep the supply temperature above 16° in the winter. All boilers, expansion vessels etc where kept within either plant room.

MCW / HWS where extended from the incoming mains and Boiler plant respectively. They served the new sanitary ware within the core areas and kitchen. A gas supply was also fed into the building to serve the kitchen.

The toilets blocks where served by twin fan toilet extract fans on an auto changeover facility connected to the central BMS system. All toilet spaces are heated by means of the LTHW radiator system.

The control

Control of all HVAC equipment was by means of Daikin centralized controllers. These where provided free issue to the main contractor to install in a central BMS system.
