Getting your air conditioning unit ready for summer couldn’t be simpler with BMS Aircon’s tips!
Letting your AC Unit sit idle for a number of months will inevitably lead to it collecting dirt, dust and debris which could affect its performance when you need a cool down in the heat up ahead.
Your initial step is to clean your filters or replace them, which should be reviewed twice, annually. Failure to do this will lead to a restricted air flow which will reduce its efficiency.
Clean condenser coils
Your central air conditioners’ condenser coil will typically be located outdoors. If debris has gotten inside the unit, it is likely that the coils will be clogged with dirt. To clean the coils, the top and side panels will need to be removed, then using a refrigerator coil brush or a soft brush on a vacuum, gently clean the coils from the outside of the unit. Use the vacuum to clean the insides of the coils.
Scoop out any debris and leaves from the base of the condenser and, if applicable, ensure the drain isn’t blocked.
Check coolant lines
Refrigerant tubes or pipes will typically have a roam coolant line insulation covering them to prevent the loss of energy. If there are any frayed areas, replace them by installing foam insulation sleeves, or wrap the lines with a foam insulation tape.
Ensure that you test your unit once it has fully dried and then turn off the power to the condenser back by turning the thermostat in your home off, then turning the power at both the main panel and disconnect box on, lastly, switch your thermostat to cool.
