BMS has recently received accreditation from SAFEcontractor, a programme which recognises very high standards of health and safety practice amongst UK contractors. SAFEcontractor accreditation is expected to enhance the company’s ability to attract new contracts and its commitment to safety will be viewed positively by its insurers when the company liability policy is up for renewal.
Under the SAFEcontractor system businesses undergo a vetting process, which examines health and safety procedures and their track record for safe practice.
Those companies meeting the high standard are included on a database, which is accessible to registered users only via a website, www.safecontractor.com
Employer-organisations who sign up to the scheme can access the database, which enables them to vet potential contractors before they even set foot on site. These employers agree that, as users of scheme, they will engage only those who have received accreditation.
Over 100 major nationwide businesses from several key sectors have signed up to use the scheme when selecting contractors for services such as building, cleaning, maintenance, refurbishment or electrical and mechanical work.
BMS are pleased to announce that their application to join Constructionline, the register of re-qualified suppliers has been successful.
Constructionline is the UK's register of pre-qualified local and national construction and construction-related contractors and consultants. Owned and endorsed by the Department for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform (formerly the DTI), Constructionline is a contributor to the Rethinking Construction initiative.
Constructionline gather and assess pre-qualification information on behalf of public and private sector procurers and provide them with access to over 14,000 fully accredited suppliers free of charge.
The concept of a single national database was initially proposed by the 1994 Latham Report on construction industry modernization and efficiency, 'Constructing the Team'. Since then Constructionline has grown and been updated to stay relevant to the needs of modern procurement.
Over 14,000 contractors and consultants, ranging from sole traders and small specialist firms to large multi-nationals, are registered with Constructionline. There are 1,700 plus buyers across the UK ranging from large central government departments and agencies to Local Authorities, Housing Associations, Universities and NHS Trusts.
